Nottingham’s top roller derby team the Nottingham Hellfire Harlots are celebrating their first double win of 2015 with the league’s A and B teams winning their games against the Birmingham Blitz Dames in a double header at Nottingham Trent University last Saturday.

The two A teams had played before in a tournament in Wales back in 2013, but the Birmingham Blitz Dames had recently rocketed up the European rankings leaving our local team primed, and ready to fight for every point. Harlots A came out strong and kept their momentum going until the final whistle, delivering the score Nottingham Hellfire Harlots A 203 – 100 Birmingham Blitz Dames A. This win has propelled the Nottingham Hellfire Harlots A up to 24th in Europe and 139th in the world; the team are in high spirits and confident of breaking in to the top 20 this year.

The B teams had never played each other before and with the half time score sitting at Nottingham Hellfire Harlots B 56 – 110 Birmingham Blitz Dames B, Harlots B refused to give in to their first potential defeat and in the first 10 minutes of the second half narrowed the points gap to just 13 points. Fancy footwork from Harlots B jammers seized those crucial winning points. The final score for the first bout was Nottingham Hellfire Harlots B 176 – 166 Birmingham Blitz Dames B.

Head of Training, Jo Scott commented, “I am immensely proud of what both our A and B teams have achieved this weekend. These were two really tough games but all of our skaters remained focussed and in control. Everyone’s hard work is paying off and with so many great games ahead of us this year, we have no plans to slow down!”

The Nottingham Hellfire Harlots next home game is another double header with London Rockin’ Rollers bringing their A and B team to Nottingham Trent University’s Clifton Campus on Saturday 11 April. The Harlots are also recruiting new skaters from 13 April, email sparks@hellfire-harlots.co.uk for more information.
