Nottingham roller derby team, the Hellfire Harlots met the Bristol Harbour Harlots in their last away game of 2013 and brought home a win with a score of 128 – 225.
The Hellfire Harlots met the Bristol Harbour Harlots in Nottingham last June and there was certainly scores to be settled over which Harlots should reign supreme.
Held in Bristol, the Hellfire Harlots skated out to a packed sports hall with a vocal home crowd. Fortunately for the Nottingham Hellfire Harlots, friends, team mates and family rivalled the home audience with rowdy cheers and chants to show the Hellfire Harlots had not arrived without a solid fan-base.
From the first whistle, the Hellfire Harlots quickly edged ahead thanks to their strong defensive play and well-timed offensive moves. The half time score sat at 54 – 94 with the Hellfire Harlots ahead of the Bristol Harbour Harlots in a strong position but not one Bristol couldn’t reverse if the Nottingham roller derby team let down their guard.
Bristol came out fighting in the second half and a series of penalties weakened Nottingham’s defence but not enough for Bristol to ever seriously challenge Nottingham’s ever-growing lead. The final score was 128 to the Bristol Harbour and 225 to the Harlots Nottingham Hellfire Harlots.
Hellfire Harlots Captain and Head of Training, Joannasaurus said, “I am delighted with the result of Saturday’s bout, this is a great end to 2013 for us and you can almost forget just how much we have achieved. In 2013 we became a WFTDA apprentice league; we also had our first international away bout last month and our first tournament in the summer. Not forgetting the successful recruitment drives to attract new skaters, referees and Non-Skating Officials (NSOs).
“We’ll have a short break over Christmas but we’ll be back to training in the new year and ready to take over the world!”
The Hellfire Harlots’ next bout is at Tattoo Freeze in Telford on 13 January 2014 and their next home bout will be at Nottingham Trent University, Clifton Campus on 1 March 2014.
