Hellfire Harlots Steel the Win in Last Home Bout of the Year

Nottingham Roller Derby team the Hellfire Harlots faced Sheffield Steel Roller Girls in their last home bout of 2013. The bout was a true test of the Harlots’ mettle as they took with win from Sheffield with a final score of  211 – 183.

The Nottingham roller derby team had an incredible first half against local rivals Sheffield with the half time score sitting at 44 to SSRG and 116 points to the Hellfire Harlots. The second half proved more nail-biting for fans of the Harlots as Sheffield had a productive half time break and showed the crowd they were not going down without a fight and at one point even edged ahead of the Harlots.

Vice Captain of the Hellfire Harlots, El Kapone commented, “We knew Sheffield was going to be a tough one for us following our away bout against them last October and our skaters did an amazing job and pulled out all the stops for the win. We’ve been putting the hours in as a team to skate together and skate strong and I’m really proud of what we achieved today.”

The Nottingham roller derby team hosted the double-header bout with a mixed warm up bout rolling first (mixed meaning female skaters from teams across the UK) where the Iron Maidens met the Steel Magnolias on the track. Featuring skaters from teams across the UK including Birmingham Blitz Dames, the Lincolnshire Bombers and the Leicester Dolly Rockit Rollers.

And as always, there was home baked goods lovingly made by roller girls for the hungry crowds and local businesses selling hand-crafted goods. The raffle proved a massive success too with prizes donated by Boots, Roller Bootique, Opro mouthguards and Antemaccassa (big thanks to Bettie Mal Seizure for organising).

Also thanks to Nottingham Trent University Clifton Campus for looking after us and bout organiser Dredd Blox for making the day go smoothly.
