What is your Roller Derby Name?
What is your alter ego? (i.e. what do you do when you aren’t on the track)
Off the track I go by Sarah. When I’m not working as a community healthcare assistant I like to go and spend time with my friends, or chill at home with my furry family. That, or sleeping. Who doesn’t love a good nap?
How did you find out about roller derby?
I first found out about roller derby when I was at college. A couple of the girls had joined a local team and were encouraging me to join. I was really intrigued and eventually built myself up to join their fresh meat programme.
Who is favourite roller derby girl (or ref)?
I have a huuuuuuuuge fan girl crush on Vicious Van Go Go of Gotham. I am in awe of her!
What’s your derby dream?
Just to play and enjoy the game as a skater until my body won’t let me anymore.
What’s your proudest derby moment so far?
That would definitely be my Harlots debut game with the B Team. It felt amazing to play with them for the very first time after real life getting in the way of my training and progression, it was a very sweet experience.
Do you have any other hobbies besides roller derby?
I like to read, crochet, and play piano!
If you could have any super power, what would it be and why?
The ability to give super satisfying hugs.
What is your worst / best Roller Derby Injury to date?
Up until a scrim recently, I’d never had the misfortune of sitting on someone else’s wheels. Yeah, that stuff hurts and it was the most excruciatingly painful moment on skates I’ve had so far. What added insult to injury was that I wanted to show my epic bruise off to everyone, but its location was a little too intimate, even for teamies eyes!
What three essential pieces of advice would you give to someone looking to get involved in Roller Derby for the first time?
- DO IT.
- Have fun.
- Bend your knees.
