We won RWRG’s 50/50 Raffle!

On 27 April 2014, Royal Windsor Roller Girls had their last practice before 25 of their skaters, refs and supporters left for Beach Brawl in Fort Lauderdale hosted by Gold Coast Derby Girls .

To enable them to make the journey, they raised funds by selling limited edition Beach Brawl vests, and created a 50/50 raffle!

The 50/50 raffle was something I’d never heard of and was intrigued to find out more when one of our ladies posted it for all our league to see. I went straight on to the website and was in awe of such an idea! For just £5 I could be in with a chance of winning a pair of Antik skates from skatestation.co.uk, priority entry in to Summer Sur5al 3 ‘Sur5al of the Fittest’ and a lump sum of money for a league of my choice (the Nottingham Hellfire Harlots of course!)

Over 100 teams from around the world were nominated and bought tickets! The more nominations your team receives the better chance you had of winning the cash and of course the skates.

I was sold as soon as I’d read it! This is it… If I could get my friends and family to buy a ticket and lots of Harlots we could be in for a good chance. My mum bought 2 tickets and I bought 1 but it wasn’t enough so I got sharing the post and bugging Harlots to buy tickets. For quite a while we had the largest piece of the pie in tickets bought and league nominated (We are pink/purple check in the graphic below).

The Nottingham Hellfire Harlots made up a good chunk of the pie!

Royal Windsor Roller Girls left for Fort Lauderdale and played their hearts out!

They returned and I was desperate to see if they had drawn the raffle, they were a little behind with it with all the travelling so I tried to put it to the back of my mind. I went training Wednesday 5 June 2014 as usual and on my way home I got a call from my partner Steve so I pulled over and called him back…

“Nic, guess what?? You’ve only won the 50/50 raffle!” What! I told him I didn’t believe his as he is always winding me up for a laugh. He went on to say that Joannasaurus [Jo Scott, Head of Training] had shared the post! Well that was it, it must be true if Jo has shared it! Waaaaaaaaaah! I was screaming with joy! I simply couldn’t believe it.

I was flooded with messages saying “well done!” and “congratulations!”, and it started to sink in that wow I really did win this!

We haven’t made our mind up what we are going to spend the £900 on yet but we are sure it will be on a team event for everyone in our league to enjoy from our fresh members right up to our A team.

I have not long received my skates from the wonderful skatestation.co.uk and I am extremely happy and humble for such an amazing prize for myself and my league.

Not only that, but  to add to the high of winning the skates and raffle cash, I passed my 27 laps in five minutes wearing my brand new skates, who needs lucky pants?!

I would like to thank everyone who took part in this amazing raffle, to all the harlots who bought tickets and helped rack up such a great sum of money, to all the teams who supported Royal Windsor in their travels to the states. I have always been a big fan of RWRG’s and bought a Who Dares Windsor Beach Brawl Vest too before the draw and wearing it in the picture below – I just can’t get enough!

Thank you all again, I am a very very happy lady!

Derby love,
